Octavia “Opi” Payne has been playing ultimate for 10 years after starting at the University of Pennsylvania. She has been on five different club teams, including Washington, D.C. Scandal with whom she won two USA Ultimate national titles. She also won a championship with the 2013 U.S. World Games team and the U.S. Women’s National Team at the 2016 World Ultimate Championships in London. Most recently, Opi was an alternate for the 2017 World Games team.
When she’s not playing ultimate, Opi spends a lot of time cooking. She also loves rock climbing. Her day job is with a non-profit called World Resources Institute where her group helps fight deforestation using satellites.
“Ultimate is my community, my friendships, my hobby, my pursuit of excellence. Living ultimate means being the best I can be as an athlete and a person on and off the field.
I live ultimate because it brings out the best in people and the best in me.”
